Why we start

There is no tourism system focus on West Africa market, the traveler has to face various problem with accommodation, traffic, point of interest, restaurant etc. The local travel agent also has difficulty in promoting and managing travel assets.

What we want to do is bring traveler and agents in one platform, the travelers and agents can solve all the problems in one place.

A platform where users of any age can customize travel package for themselves or their loved one under any budget. Collaborate with numbers of hotel chains, restaurant, various sightseeing locations, adventures sports business will help avid travelers build their online community.

We put ourselves into the shoes of platform users(agents & travelers), using the jobs to be Done framework. We created a research plan in order to help us aligned to the research goals at all times as well as the necessary steps that we would need to take to complete it.

Methodologies

Competitive Analysis & Market Research: This helped me understand the trends and best practices in the travel market, especially the ones that help customers receive help from an agent or agency.

We reviewed travel booking applications and companies that offered similar solutions, like tailor-made vacations. we then dug into each company to see what made each of them special and wrote down some strengths and weaknesses that we know we could use in the future when designing the app. From these research techniques, I was able to gather insights on the direction of the industry, trends, and features that may be expected of the user.

Quantitative Research

We conduct an online survey with the SurveyMonkey to better understand the user needs and to gather information about user when they planning and booking travel package. We gathered 50+ responses from participants age between 25-65.

The key finding of surveys

95% of participants mentioned that planning a general outline without a specific schedule when planning for trips was their main preference.
60% of participants like to plan the trip themselves but don't mind consult experts.
No participant under the age of 44 has used a travel agent or personalized travel service before. Six participants over the age of 44 have used those services.
Prefer method of communication with a travel planner/agent when planning for a trip varies with age. Younger travelers prefer online chat or message. Older travelers refer email first and then over the phone.

Feedback from open questions

Qualitative Research

We interviewed 30 persons from different age groups and asked them around 15 questions about their pain points while traveling, their good and bad experience and more insights. All the conversations are open ended. We can gather quality data to design our application.
